Thanks for attending the Feb 6 event

I want to thank all who attended the Feb 6 event at the Rosenstiel school. The dinner turned out fine, our technology worked and we heard from alot of speakers and interest groups. Now - the follow up is critically important. We need to solidify the steering committee, plan additional events (including the Mabel Miller tour of the island), provide input to the city manager about additional public input into the Master PLan process (focus groups, events, design workshops, photo exhibits etc). We should try and engage more high school and college students in the process in the coming weeks as well. Its not easy - I can testify from experience - but well worth the effort.

Turner Tech Field trip to Virginia Key

34 students from Turner Tech High School went on a field trip to Virginia Key today. They scattered around much of the old black beach armed with video cameras, digitals, and plenty of curiosity. Three teachers from Turner Tech Mr. Jose Ugarte, history, Mrs. Chris Kirchner, English, and Mr. Eric Garner, communications, chaperoned somewhat loosely so as not to damper the students' curiosity.

Is This Sludge?

While walking along the shore on the eastern coast of Virginia Key one may find this strange, non-natural looking stuff. It's a gray, clay like mess. What do you think it is? (view the attached pictures)
